purple pocket placemat

Purple Pocket Placemat (crochet)

It’s the purple pocket placemat! So cute! I developed a variation of this pattern from the 2013 Lily Sugar n’ Cream Kitchen Essentials crochet pattern book. My version of it is slightly different with the middle stripe being smaller and the pocket hugging the line with a stripe down the middle. There is a difference in size as well.

I grabbed this book for $3.62 because it comes with 7 useful kitchen crochet patterns, and because I love the sugar ‘n cream yarn brands. It’s a strong yarn, but also soft at the same time. It doesn’t stretch out like most yarns do. It feels and looks like expensive yarn, but it’s very inexpensive! I highly recommend their yarn and accompanying patterns!

  1. Hi Laurel,
I crocheted the 1st and 2nd row but it’s wavy and curling up like I have to many stitches. Not sure if I’m inserting the hook in the the correct chain or space. Can you please help?
    Thanks

  2. I don’t think I got the stitch right. It looks really different and messy. I don’t know what to do. Help?

  3. HI LOVE THIS PLACEMAT. WHEN I GO TO PRINT IT OFF IT COMES IN ANOTHER LAUAGE SO DON T KNOW JUST HOW TO DO PATTERN.

I’m sorry Nina, I’m not sure what to tell you. I haven’t heard of anyone else having this problem.

  4. How many rows of each did you make for the one in the Picture? I think it looks so much better, the way you’ve done it, than with the original pattern.

Thank you Ann-Sophie! It has always been a little difficult for me to count the rows after a piece is made, but here is a close up picture with the measurements of each row. I hope it helps!

  5. Great pattern and the purple makes this a “must do” project for me! Do you know the brand and/or color name?

    1. Author

Thank you! The brand name is Sugar ‘n Cream, just like the pattern. The white color is called “pale yellow” and the purple… I just can’t, for the life of me find the tag… I will keep looking though and let you know if I find it!

  6. Will one skein of each color make one placemat?

    1. Author

Yes, I had one small roll of each color I bought from Craft Warehouse and together they made one placemat. 🙂

  7. I found one more error that says “Bread A. Join MC” It is right after row 2 instructions. Neat pattern, I love the silverware pocket.

Thank you for the compliment and also the correction! I fixed the typo 😀

  8. I’m not familiar with the directions “Bread MS”. Can you clarify? Thank you

    1. Author

Thank you Sharon for bringing this to my attention. It’s “Break MC” or “Break Main Color”. My apologies! I have made the correction.

Thank you Bev! The pouring shot is one of my favorites so I thought I would give it a try, I’m very please with the way it turned out too! I used a tripod with a shutter release cable 😀

  10. What a cute pattern! I love the pocket for the silverware and how it overlays the stripe. Just the other day I read how challenging it can be to take a photo of something pouring, so I was also very impressed with your lovely picture with the water pouring into the cup of tea. 🙂
