Crochet Monkey Pattern

Crochet toys are adorable. I could end this post like that because honestly it’s a pretty accurate statement as it stands. I have made several crochet toys for my youngest daughter as well as a collection of blankets, hats, booties, clothes and other miscellaneous items (the possibilities are endless).

My youngest daughter is 6 months old and has recently become mobile. This means she is into EVERYTHING. It is wonderful and I love it! I’m starting to get my strength back by chasing her around the house and keeping her out of things.

Recently I have been noticing that she isn’t as entertained by her current toys as she used to be and it’s about time for some new additions to the mix. With her recent fascination with Curious George and the song Upside Down from the movie, I pulled out my Easy Crochet Critters book that I’ve used in the past to make other toys and decided to use the crochet monkey pattern to make a monkey. We named him George… {If that wasn’t obvious}

I love these little crochet critters because not only are they easy, but you don’t have to worry about the gauge size, yarn, or anything like that. Just pick up any yarn you have laying around. The thicker the yarn the larger the animal… the thinner the yarn the smaller the animal. Just make sure that you use the correct size hook for the yarn you use or the filling might show through when your project is done.

At this point you want to start stuffing firmly and continue to stuff as you progress.

The official pattern in the book calls for a tail, but since I wanted to make Curious George who does not have a tail I chose not to add this part. I made a few small changes to the pattern, but if you are interested the full crochet monkey pattern or more of these Vanna’s Choice: Easy Crochet Critters patterns I highly recommend this book. It’s only $3.99 for kindle and $4.46 paperback and it provides 10 different super cute animals. So far I’ve made the elephant, monkey and hippo and Winnie loves them all!
